World Space Week 2026

World Space Week returns from October 4-10, 2026 - the largest annual space education and outreach event in the world. Declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999, the dates commemorate two historic milestones: the launch of Sputnik 1 on October 4, 1957, and the signing of the Outer Space Treaty on October 10, 1967.

Every year, space agencies, aerospace companies, schools, planetaria, museums, and astronomy clubs around the world come together during this week to celebrate the achievements of space science and technology. World Space Week 2025 reached record scale, with up to 50,000 events across 102 nations.

The week aims to educate the public about the benefits of space, inspire young people to pursue science and technology, and foster international cooperation - demonstrating broad societal support for space exploration and its role in sustainable development.

World Space Week is coordinated by the United Nations with the support of the World Space Week Association (WSWA). Find out how you can participate in 2026!
